Tasmanian police are investigating how vandals managed to cut Telstra cables in three locations in one suburb on Wednesday night, causing significant disruption to the local network.
The vandalism is the latest in a series of attacks on Telstra property in the state, with two of the areas targeted on Wednesday having been hit three times in as many months.
The cables were repaired at 3:30pm this afternoon. A Telstra spokesperson said the telco was aware of 41 customers who were affected.
The vandals are understood to have accessed the Telstra pits located on the footpaths and nature strips. Launceston Police have called for information on the incident.
Telstra has also been battling service disruption issues in the NSW suburb of Ulladulla, where a damaged fibre cable has resulted in phone and internet outages across the region since around 6:30 this morning.
The “major transmission issue” affected around 8500 fixed line services and seven mobile towers in the areas surrounding Ulladulla, a spokesperson confirmed.
Repair crews isolated the problem and implemented a temporary patch this afternoon, and are now working on restoring full service.
