The move, effective from 13 September until 19 October, is a direct retaliation to both Optus and Telstra's announcement they would each pay up to $450 in credit towards exit fees and handset trade-ins for new customers if they sign on for 24 months.
Virgin said its extra 2GB per month would be worth $480 over the life of a 24 month plan.
"We’ve listened to our customers and understand what they really want. We know customers are using more data and are looking for value through increased data inclusions. What better way to enjoy the latest smartphone than with 2GB bonus data to browse and explore until your heart’s content!" Virgin said.

Vodafone is yet to announce such a deal, but it's expected to follow in the footsteps of the rest of the 'big four' telcos.
The bold moves coincide with Apple's iPhone 6 announcement, with the telcos also lining up to offer the flashy new flagship device.
Apple's recommended retail prices for the iPhone 6 are $869 (16GB), $999 (64GB) and $1,129 (128GB).
The corresponding iPhone 6 Plus variants cost $999, $1,129, and $1,249.
Pre-orders will be accepted by Apple starting 12 September (this Friday).
