CEO Iñaki Berroeta says Vodafone will incfrerasingly target smart phones as video platforms. “We are changing customers’ attitudes towards the usage of data on phones,” he said at a press briefing this week, pointing to VHA’s content deals with Spotify and Fairfax.
“We are the market innovators. We are offering premium content and we are offering free unlimited calling on weekends."
Berroeta said that video on demand is Vodafone Australia's next step. "Expect some announcements soon on new content partnerships.. Video was the biggest growth area for mobile phones, and Vodafone will be a leader in facilitating its wider usage in Australia."
Berroeta also said that Vodafone's lead in lowering the cost of international data roaming had been a factor in Optus and Telstra lowering their prices, while at the same time disparaging them as still being too expensive. “VHA now offers the best roaming deals in the world,” he said.
“We started our $5 a day roaming deals in July 2014. Optus followed with its $10 plan in August, and in September Telstra reduced the price of international roaming by 80%. Vodafone’s actions have helped all mobile phone users.”
Vodafone is aso greatly increasing its retail presence. There were 30 new stores opened last year, with a similar number to follow this year. Retail deals with Dick Smith (284 stores) and TeleChoice (30 stores and growing) will be followed by other deals in 2015.
