Mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) will have access to Telstra's 4G service by June next year, but may not be able to provide full-speed downloads to customers initially.
Telstra yesterday said it was developing a wholesale proposition for its 4G network that will use all its 4G spectrum.
This includes the 700MHz spectrum as well as the 1800 and 2600MHz frequency bands, which cover 90 percent of the nation.
Although Telstra is upgrading its network to support the LTE Category 6 and Category 9 standards this year with 300 and 450 megabits per second downloads, a company spokesperson told iTnews the telco was considering an intial cap on the wholesale 4G service of 100Mbps for MVNOs.
This follows the development of Telstra's 3G wholesale service, which had a 7.2Mbps speed until the telco removed it last year [pdf].
Telstra 4G Wholesale will offer both post-paid and prepaid variants, and use the same LTE 3GPP standards as the retail service. The company declined to indicate the pricing for wholesale customers.
