The announcement follows the recent launch of the data-free music streaming service, Optus Music, where select new and existing Optus pre-paid and Optus customers on select plans received access to "some of Australia’s most popular music streaming mobile apps, including iHeartRadio, Spotify, Google Play Music, Pandora and Guvera".
iHeartRadio is delivered in Australia via the Australian Radio Network (ARN), and it notes "several recent iHeartRadio Live events including performances by international superstars Justin Bieber, Adam Lambert and UK sensation Jess Glynne".
So what will the new partnership with Optus deliver?
|
Ben White, managing directo of product and marketing at Optus, said, “We are delighted to partner with iHeartRadio Australia as part of our ongoing commitment to giving customers game-changing entertainment experiences.
“Australians are passionate about music, and by partnering with iHeartRadio, we’re able to deliver fantastic premium music content and immersive experiences that get our prepaid customers closer to the artists and music that they love.”
The announcement also comes after what we are told is "the hugely successful exclusive fans event, KIIS Presents iHeartRadio LIVE with Jess Glynne – powered by Optus, held on Monday, 9 May in Sydney".
The event was a success, with "the UK star and GRAMMY Award winner thrilling a packed house as she performed for iHeartRadio LIVE including her smash hits – both also platinum singles - Hold My Hand and Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself".
We’re also told that "fans won’t have to wait long for the next exclusive iHeartRadio LIVE event with the announcement today (that) UK 80s pop sensation Culture Club will give lucky Pure Gold listeners the ultimate fan experience as part of a very special iHeartRadio LIVE event on Sunday, June 12".
Culture Club’s frontman is the well-known Boy George, with the re-formed group "touring Australia for the first time in 15 years with the original line-up on stage: singer Boy George, guitarist/keyboardist Roy Hay, bassist Mikey Craig and drummer Jon Moss".

To tempt those wanting to join a qualifying Optus pre-paid service, the media release says that "Pure Gold Presents iHeartRadio LIVE with Culture Club ultimate fan experience, and lucky winners will attend an intimate afternoon fan Q&A session with all four original band members hosted by WSFM’s Brendan ‘Jonesy’ Jones & Amanda Keller, before attending the band’s sound check ahead of their performance at the Hordern Pavilion that evening. Winners will also receive VIP tickets the Sunday evening show".
In addition, the partnership (which is brought about by Australian Radio Network and Content Agency Emotive, iHeartRadio Australia and Optus) will also give Australians "the exclusive opportunity to attend iconic iHeartRadio events in the US – including the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball, iHeartRadio Music Awards, iHeartRadio Pool Party and the iHeartRadio Music Festival".
iHeartRadio Australia LIVE officially launched last year with the "much-lauded #BIEBERISLAND event starring Justin Bieber, and head of iHeartRadio Australia, Geraint Davies, said the series was only going to get bigger and better".
Davies added: “iHeartRadio Australia is dedicated to continuosuly improving the iHeartRadio customer experience. This extensive partnership with Optus brings two big entertainment brands together to offer the Australian public unprecedented access to the music and artists they love.
“Whether it’s through attending local iHeartRadio Live events like the up and coming Culture Club ultimate experience or by sending lucky winners over to the US to attend some of the biggest music events on the planet, it truly is a unique offering that we know is resonating with Australian audiences of all age groups,” Davies concluded.
