An APC reader asked a probing question to Optus' engineering director today: when will you fix the 3G network? Here's a video of the answer.

Please note that I could NOT view your video of OPTUS informing us that they are fixing their 3G network. You see the reason is that I live in LEDA WA, only 30 km from the centre of Perth, in the Perth Southern Metropolitan Corridor Area, one of the fastest growing regions in the area and almost next door to one of the largest industrial precincts in the country. I cannot get ADSL because of Telstra's infamous pair gain debacle although my immediate neighbour can, even though the underground telstra supply box is more on my property then his. Two years ago Optus 3G wireless broadband provided a solution and I was provided with service equating to ADSL 1 on a 95% availability basis. Six months later that had dropped to 50% speed and availability. In the following 6 months it degraded to just above Dial-up speed at 50% availability. For the past 6 months I have had 50% of dial-up speed for 100% of the time but only if I am lucky.

Optus cannot or will not do anything about it. Any talk of Optus fixing the 3G network is poppytalk in my mind until I personally have my issues resolved.

Telstra, Optus and any of the others will not fix anything unless they are heavily fined for their past failure to install sufficient infrastructure and maintain it to standard, and for continuing to implement infrastructure and systems which are the most evil of forms of discrimination in the dissemination of information to any and all Australians, including next door neighbours.
