Apple have just announced their new lineup of phones for 2017: the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X (to come later). We take a look at the specs for these devices, and compare the best plans on the market.
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus Specs
To the untrained eye, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are similar to last year's devices. The iPhone 8 has a 4.5" Retina HD IPS display, while the iPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5" Retina HD IPS display. This year, both displays also add True Tone technology, which adjusts the display's colour to match the ambient light.
Inside the phones you will find Apple's new A11 Bionic chip, which is a powerful 6-core processor designed by Apple. The iPhone 8 includes 2GB of RAM, while the iPhone 8 Plus includes 3GB of RAM.
Storage on the phones is ample, with both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus coming in 64 GB and 256 GB varieties. This should be enough for some serious music and movie collections.
While battery size is still unknown, Apple claim that both devices will last you all day and compares with last year's iPhones. New to the battery this year is fast charge, which will allow you to charge both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus battery to 50% in 30 minutes using the included Lightening cable. Also new is wireless charging which will work with existing Qi chargers.
Apple is renowned for including great cameras in the iPhone, and this year is no exception. On the rear, the iPhone 8 includes a 12MP camera with a ƒ/1.8 aperture lense. The iPhone 8 Plus includes dual cameras, a 12MP wide-angle ƒ/1.8 aperture lense, and a 12MP telephoto ƒ/2.8 aperture lense. This gives the iPhone 8 Plus both optical and digital zoom. On the front of both iPhones are 7MP ƒ/2.2 aperture FaceTime HD cameras.
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus ship with iOS 11 installed, and are IP67 water and dust resistant. Like last year, there is no headphone jack, but a Lightening to 3.5 mm headphone adapter is included in the box.
