It’s the first birthday of NBN’s fibre to the node rollout. Birthday cake. Candles. Everybody sing.
12 months after the commercial launch of FTTN, apparently 745,000 premises have been marked by the national broadband network as ready for service, with just under a third of those services activated by customers. NBN inflates those numbers by adding in the number of apartments connected to its FTTB network, saying that 854,000 premises total are ready for service across the equivalent technologies.
If you take NBN’s media release at face value, the FTTN NBN is only a year old. The copper network that it’s built upon, though, has been in the ground for many decades — really, we should be giving FTTN a senior’s card instead. [NBN]
