Stan Is Now Streaming In 4K

Australia’s own home-grown Netflix competitor Stan has a shiny new feather in its cap. A new Premium plan tier at $15 per month is Stan’s foray into 4K video, with the entirety of Breaking Bad and new series like Wolf Creek available in crispy crispy Ultra HD the first to come in a continually expanding catalogue.

At the moment, Stan’s 4K listings stretches from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul to Wolf Creek, Power, The Girlfriend Experience, Preacher, Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle. The Stan Premium tier is $15 a month versus the $10 regular plan, but also includes the option to stream to four devices at once as well as downloading offline on up to five.

4K streaming is already up and running on 2015/2016/2017 Samsung and LG 4K TVs and the PlayStation 4 Pro, with “more to come” — presumably the Xbox One S and hopefully streaming to the Chromecast Ultra — later this year.

If you want to dip your toes into Stan’s 4K Premium package and you’re already a member, you can try the $15 plan for your regular $10 per month for 30 days before you automatically get charged the new amount.

Disclosure: Stan is a 50/50 joint venture between Nine Entertainment and Fairfax Media. Allure Media, the company which publishes Gizmodo Australia, is also owned by Fairfax.
