Vodafone's lower NBN prices mean new battles now to win consumers

By

Price wars: a new hope for lower NBN prices, striking back against an empire of expensive telcos to ensure a return of the happy customer – can Vodafone's lower prices awaken consumer interest?

It is a dark time for the NBN Co, but a bright time for Vodafone.

Although the Death Star of high NBN interconnect and CVC prices is set for destruction by ACCC and the ACMA investigation to smash ridiculously high NBN plan prices and telcos charging for speeds across networks they knew they could never deliver, Vodafone has struck back from its hidden base to lower its NBN prices for all consumers.

Evading the dreaded NBN connectivity issues that can leave customers disconnected for weeks, Vodafone's group of value-price freedom fighters led by the company's general manager of Fixed, Matthew Lobb, have established that its hybrid-based 4G and fixed Wi-Fi is no longer a secret and is a great way for customers to get connected immediately.

This is despite NBN Co chief executive Darth Morrow, having been obsessed with fibre-to-the-curbing of the network, yet now refusing to more widely install FttC despite having dispatched thousands of remote probes into the far reaches of cyberspace to see where FttC could replace FttN and deliver far better connectivity.

Thankfully, Vodafone has the force of its 4G network in place across the important metro areas and various regional areas to ensure customers in Vodafone nbn footprint areas now have even more reason to consider the company as conduits to NBN connectivity.

So that customers can use that force more effectively, and awaken all the possibilities that faster upload and download speeds deliver, Vodafone's new NBN pricing plans are as follows:

  • $70 Basic NBN plan on NBN 12 becomes $60 ($10 off)
  • $95 Essential+ NBN plan on NBN 50 becomes $70 ($25 off)
  • $110 Premium NBN plan on NBN 100 becomes $95 ($15 off)

As previously announced, Vodafone's NBN technology offers the following forceful features:

  • Instant connect. No need to spend years training as a Padawan – instead, be connected to the force of the Internet from day one. Vodafone’s Wi-Fi Hub hybrid technology gives you access to the company's mobile network while you wait for the NBN to be connected.
  • 4G back-up – Peace of mind that you’ll stay connected using the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub which uses our mobile network as a back-up – it's like having a back-up connection to the light side of the force whenever needed.
  • Bonus mobile data - If you’re with Vodafone, you’ll receive bonus mobile data each month to use on your phone, mobile broadband or tablet plan. If only Anakin had this, he might never have wussed out and joined the dark side of the NBN as NBN Co Death Star product manager.
  • Unlimited data – All plans come with unlimited data so you can stream, download, browse and share your favourite content, which presumably includes all the Star Wars movies if you're connected to the right SVOD streaming providers.

Lobb said: "We believe in offering people premium customer service and innovation at a competitive price. For us it’s about the total customer experience and not just getting people to sign up.

"As a new player, we have the flexibility to launch new offers, promotions and products that will give people switching to the nbn real value combined with peace of mind. That’s what we’ve done today.

"Since launching last year, we’ve had overwhelmingly positive feedback from people who experience Vodafone’s customer-first approach to nbn.

"A great example of this is our 4G back-up that gives people reassurance that they’ll stay connected courtesy of our mobile network.

"We’re continuing to roll out to more locations this year and looking forward to giving more people across Australia the opportunity to experience Vodafone NBN."

So, may the force of ever more competitive pricing be with you, because there's no way in the galaxy, here or far away, that this is the last piece of competition you'll see, but merely the latest, and we'll surely see competition for a long time to come.
