Kogan Mobile launches $7.90, 32GB 'first-recharge' deal for new customers

By

Fierce "everything" competitor Kogan has slashed all of its 30-day SIM-only deals to $7.90 for the first recharge, with the Large plan doubled this month only from 16GB to 32GB.

Kogan Mobile doesn't offer the kind of data banking rollover you'll find with Aldi Mobile, Belong and others, but it does offer bang for your buck with regular promotions for both new and, separately, existing customers.

A relative uses Kogan Mobile and was just about to complete the initially purchased 365-day plan option, and received a promotion offering a 30% discount and on the next 365 day purchase, so that's one example of Kogan Mobile naturally offering deals to existing customers.

The other is Kogan's ongoing series of special offers for new customers, targeting all smartphone out there coming off plans and looking for better and cheaper deals, as well as all those other MVNO customers who haven't tried Kogan Mobile yet.

In this case, the deal on offer until 11.59pm on 28 February is a slashing of all plan prices to $7.90 per month, each with unlimited voice and text in Australia, with data plans on offer commensurate with the price each plan normally sells for, from 2GB through to a special 32GB deal for February only.

Normally, the Small plan has the calls and text, and 2GB data, and costs $16.90.

The Medium plan gives 6GB data for a usual $29.90, Large normally has 16GB data fr $36.90 and Extra Large bumps that up to 23GB for $49.90.

The deal is that each plan is priced at $7.90 for 30 days this month, and that the Large plan is getting a doubling of data, 16GB plus 16GB bonus data for a total of 32GB.

As those are the 30-day prices, the following month you can recharge at whichever level you want, based on the data you need, at the regular price, or with further discounts if you decide to buy 90 day or 365 days of access plans.

The price is obviously being aimed at anyone with a smartphone that isn't still in a contract, with Kogan Mobile pointing towards the "current back-to-school rush", and how "uni supply costs often stack up at this time of the year".

For these education and financial savings related reasons, and many more, the company proudly proclaims that "there’s never been a better time to make the switch to one of Australia’s most affordable networks".

If you don't travel deeper into rural and regional areas on a regular basis, and are mainly a city dweller, Kogan Mobile's choice of using Vodafone 4G-powered network has paid off handsomely.

The network can obviously cope with Kogan's data deals and competitive prices, and it all puts pressure on the other MVNOs and telcos out there to do better deals of their own, and it has resulted in the most competitive pricing and ever growing data allocations that we've ever seen.

More info on Kogan Mobile's deal for new customers is here, and it's available until 28 February.
