The biggest downloading suburb in 2019? Telstra says Coomera Featured

By

In a year where Fortnite dominated the data channels, Coomera on the Gold Coast was king of the downloads.

Every year, Telstra blogs a summary of the highs (and greater highs) of customer impact on their network.

The short summary, four of the ten biggest download weeks of 2019 on the fixed network were dominated by Fortnite releases.

The Mandalorian and Cricket World Cup delivered two more big weeks and the other four weeks were mostly linked to public holidays (bored teenagers?).

   Week  Contributor
 1  14 October  Fortnite 11 Chapter 2 Release
2  18 November  Disney + Launch & Mandalorian Premiere (AU)
3  28 January  Australia Day Weekend
 4  08 April  Easter Holidays
 5  25 March  Fortnite 8.1 Release
 6  26 August  Fortnite 10.2 Release
 7  25 February  Fortnite 8.0 Release
8 7 October Labour Day Weekend
9 10 June Cricket World Cup & Queens Birthday Holiday
10 30 September First weekend after sports season

On mobile, things were somewhat different with four out of five big weeks being sporting based while the fifth was the ever-green Black Friday weekend.

1  26 October  Halloween Weekend / Rugby World Cup / Cox Plate
2  23 November  Australia v Pakistan Cricket / Bushfire Crisis
3  29 November  Black Friday Weekend
4  21 September  Prelim AFL – Collingwood vs GWS
5 28 September AFL Grand Final – Richmond vs GWS

Growing out of a Queensland average of 268GB/month, Coomera on the Gold Coast managed a very hearty 445.8GB/month, followed closely by Roxburgh Park (VIC) and Pimpama (QLD).

Telstra notes that the data is for 1st January to mid-December 2019 and also observes that identified highlights for the peak months are guesses only.
