Optus brings mobile, Internet coverage to Kyneton as blackspot program rolls on

By

Optus has switched on a new tower in Kyneton in regional Victoria to provide coverage and connectivity to the Macedon Ranges by partnering with the Victorian Government to eliminate a mobile blackspot in the area.

Co located on an existing site along Kyneton Heathcote road, the tower will provide coverage to northern parts of Kyneton, with more than 190 homes now being able to connect to reliable mobile reception for the first time - providing them with the ability to make and receive calls, text and browse the Internet.

Additionally, more than 30 square kilometres of area surrounding the site will receive what Optus says is greatly enhanced mobile coverage which includes more than seven kilometres along Kyneton Heathcote road.

Andrew Sheridan, Optus’ Vice President of Regulatory and Public Affairs said, “Bringing much needed mobile coverage to regional communities like Kyneton is important for residents. It not only means greater safety those living, working and driving through this area by unlocking access to communication but also helps to facilitate contact with family and friends.”

“We were thrilled to work closely with the Victorian Government to deliver this site which will enable valuable opportunities for the local community, allowing Kyneton to remain competitive with access to the same resources as the rest of Australia. Competition is not only essential for the economy, but also great for the customer, with this new site providing customers with choice and better value.

“We know how important access to reliable mobile coverage is for those living and working across regional Australia and are proud to now be able to deliver this for the people of Kyneton.”

Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas said, “We’ve already delivered more than 150 new mobile towers and we’re getting on with removing even more blackspots, giving local communities the opportunity to thrive and enjoy where they live.”

“This mobile tower is a perfect example of how we’re getting on with the job of delivering better coverage for regional Victorians.”

“Giving households and businesses in Kyneton better mobile coverage means they have all the services and information they need to feel safe and supported.”

Optus says it continues to invest in its network to improve coverage, reliability and speed across its mobile network, with the new tower in Kyneton providing a “competitive telecommunications alternative for local residents and businesses”.
