Telstra retail boss to step down
Gordon Ballantyne

Telstra’s retail group executive Gordon Ballantyne will leave the company in December.

Ballantyne led an $18 billion-dollar portfolio, and was credited by Telstra chief executive Andrew Penn for the turnaround in Telstra’s retail business and fixed broadband and mobile performance.

His portfolio covered consumer, business, media and marketing divisions, and he created Telstra’s Health division.

Telstra estimates Ballantyne delivered more than $2 billion in “topline” revenue growth during his time at the carrier.

Ballantyne said he planned to enjoy a break before exploring new opportunities.

Telstra chief executive Andrew Penn said: "Gordon led the turnaround and growth of our retail business as well as creating exciting new growth ventures such as Telstra Health. He has brought a challenger mindset and a passion for the customer to everything he has done and his leadership will be missed.”

Ballantyne joined Telstra as consumer group managing director in June 2010, became chief customer officer in July 2012 and retail group executive in October 2013.

Other previous roles include vice president of HP's personal systems group in the UK and Ireland, founder and director of Dell.com in Europe as well as the founder of Dell Ventures Europe and a member of Dell's European executive management team.
