More than 700,000 in Victoria eligible for fibre upgrade

By

Wholesale broadband provider NBN Co announced more than 700,000 homes and businesses in Victoria are eligible to upgrade to NBN full fibre and access to fastest home internet speeds.

The full fibre connection grants access to NBN Home Ultrafast, which, NBN Co claims, is close to 18x faster than the average NBN home connection, offering wholesale speeds close to 1Gbps.

According to NBN Co, Victorians are using 10% more data than just two years ago. In Australia, consumption of data has more than tripled in seven years.

This demand prompted NBN Co to upgrade its network.

The fibre upgrade program is funded by the Australian Government’s additional $2.4 billion investment this year.

The government also invested $550 million to the Connecting Victoria program to fund broadband upgrades to over 100,000 households, 30,000 of which are already being delivered.

“For the average Australian household which now has 21 connected devices, fibre provides a fast, reliable and consistent online experience, even at the busiest times of the day. Most importantly, it’s designed for a future where giant leaps in technology, and homes with multiple devices are the norm,” said NBN customer experience expert Jane McNamara.

“NBN fibre enhances online activities such as video calls, gaming and live streaming by providing faster response times and minimal lag. This means customers can simultaneously engage in video calls, upload photos, download large files, and enjoy online streaming or gaming with less buffering or dropouts.”
